February Reading Wrap Up

Reading Wrap Up, or rather DNF Wrap Up. February was a truly dismal month for my reading endeavors. After such a promising start to the year in January, my expectations for February were quite high, but unfortunately, it turned out to be significantly below par. I couldn’t even manage to complete a series as I had hoped. Here’s to hoping that March brings better prospects.

My February Reads

The beginning of the month was fantastic! “Yumi and the Nightmare Painter” really captivated me. It’s this cozy story that unexpectedly delves into deeper themes, which was just heartwarming. If you enjoyed the film “Your Name,” this is a must-read! Plus, it’s fascinating to see how Brandon Sanderson weaves art into this narrative. Check out my detailed review for more insights.

That was my audiobook for the month of February, and I must say, it served its purpose of helping me fall asleep with its pleasant storyline. The plot was easy to follow, with stereotypical characters and a lack of depth in the magic system. It was alright to listen to, but it didn’t truly impress me. I had hoped for more focus on the tea contest, but unfortunately, it was only a minor aspect. Quite disappointing!

I’m usually disappointed by YA stories, but Elizabeth Lim consistently manages to whisk me away into her world. I really enjoyed “Six Crimson Cranes” for its lightness with a hint of emotional depth, and this prequel delivered exactly that for me. It was a pleasure to read once again about an important character, who plays a significant role in the duology. I look forward to reading more from this author, and perhaps I’ll even write a review for the entire series.

Manga time! After a long while, I delved into a manga again. Elliot Brooks has recommended this manga series several times, and I’m glad I finally picked it up. At first, it seemed like a cozy story, but I’m increasingly realizing that this series is building up to something epic! The world-building is simply wonderful. Would you like to read a review of it too? Let me know in the comments 🙂

I love stories about bookstores, but this one just seems to be riding on the coattails of that trend. It had very little to do with books or a bookstore. Moreover, the story lacked any meaningful message. Overall, it was very disappointing.

Of course, I immediately delved back into this beautiful manga world, and I must say, the series keeps getting better with each installment! I definitely need to keep reading this month.

Alright, this book was the worst I’ve ever read. It’s illogical, lacks any character development, and the main character is simply a parody of the genre. On top of that, there’s an incredibly repulsive love story. I strongly advise against reading this book. Here’s my scathing review.

My February DNFs

I believe this book initially had a lot of potential and struck a good balance between YA and adult fantasy. However, gradually, it leaned more towards the YA direction, revealing plot holes along the way. Additionally, the book felt too fast-paced for my taste. I need time to immerse myself in a world, especially with its characters, and unfortunately, this book didn’t provide that for me.

This book has everything I love: a slow-paced narrative with fantastic characters and a heist story that involves infiltrating the nobility. I adore stories like this! That’s why I can’t quite pinpoint why I don’t feel like continuing with it right now. Please, give this book a chance, because it truly is wonderful. Perhaps my mood just isn’t right at the moment, and I’ll likely give the book another chance in the future.
