Fathomfolk was a book I was particularly excited about because of its unconventional setting. As a big fan of mermaids and water witches, I was initially very enthusiastic, but unfortunately, these themes were touched upon too briefly. That was my audiobook of the month, and despite many good reviews, the book only partially impressed me. The idea was very good, and in many aspects, the book was indeed epic, but still, everything felt a bit flat. Since this is a duology, I’m still considering whether to read the second book. Is it worth it?

I finally want to read the last book in this series and thought I’d start a reread here. Ah, it was so nice to dive into this truly epic story again, and it was even more enjoyable to read the second time around. It’s a truly underrated tale that could stand shoulder to shoulder with authors like John Gwynne or similar. Here you can read my old review of the book, but maybe I’ll write a new one.
