April Reading Wrap Up

I think April was truly the most intense month of the year so far. I had many trips, both for leisure and unfortunately for work too. Even though I’m not a big fan of work trips, despite them being a big part of my job hehe, I was able to explore a bit of China, which was definitely a highlight! And I had the best food ever! But my reading time was significantly shortened because of this, and I couldn’t read as much as I would have liked. And the great thing is, I didn’t have a single DNF (Did Not Finish)! So despite the low number, it was still a good month!ย However, I can already tell that May will be better!

My March Reads

Fathomfolk was a book I was particularly excited about because of its unconventional setting. As a big fan of mermaids and water witches, I was initially very enthusiastic, but unfortunately, these themes were touched upon too briefly. Overall, the book is aimed at a very young audience and has nothing to do with adult themes. You can read my full review here.

It’s a shame that it only won second place in Mark Lawrence’s Self-published Fantasy Contest, because this book holds the first place in my heart. If you want to read a dark cozy fantasy story, you should definitely check out this book! And if you like chickens, then even more so. Read my detailed review here.

That was my audiobook of the month, and despite many good reviews, the book only partially impressed me. The idea was very good, and in many aspects, the book was indeed epic, but still, everything felt a bit flat. Since this is a duology, I’m still considering whether to read the second book. Is it worth it?

This was a German book for which there is no translation. I have to say, the book had many weaknesses, but it was exactly the right book for me at the right moment. I’m also excited to read a fantasy book in my native language that’s written by a German author.

I finally want to read the last book in this series and thought I’d start a reread here. Ah, it was so nice to dive into this truly epic story again, and it was even more enjoyable to read the second time around. It’s a truly underrated tale that could stand shoulder to shoulder with authors like John Gwynne or similar. Here you can read my old review of the book, but maybe I’ll write a new one.
